Logson teams paddle their hearts out for charity

The ripples on the river have calmed, and the weary limbs are recovering, but the feeling of ‘doing their bit’ will take much longer to fade after thirty-six of our employees raised a staggering amount of money for three charities. The Logson teams were taking part in a Dragon Boat Race in Belfast to celebrate the 130th anniversary of W & R Barnett.

Team Flute Force were paddling for Let Us Play, finished fifth, and raised £3230 and securing an extra £500 for the team with the best costumes.

The Fincredibles paddled for Finley’s Touch and raised £3107 whilst The Corru-gators were paddling for Cure Leukaemia and raised £4100, finishing 8th and 9th respectively.

Our efforts in fundraising were matched by the W & R Barnett Charity Scheme with incremental matching according to finish place. Across our 3 charities, a further £26,500 was donated through the Scheme.

David Richardson, CEO, Logson Group paddled for Team Flute Force commented; “The Belfast weather was a little grey but that didn’t dampen our spirits, or our fierce competitive streak that saw everyone give it all we had.

“Sadly, we didn’t make it onto the winner’s podium, however the monies we raised will make a difference to the three charities we raced for all of which were chosen personally by our team captain’s.”

Businesses from across the W&R Barnett group took part with John Thompson and Sons taking first place, closely followed by the team from Barnett-Hall.

In total, almost £92,000 was raised across fourteen boats with the W & R Barnett Charity Scheme making further matched donations depending on the finish positions on the Dragon Boat event.

“This was a superb way to celebrate 130 years of the W&R Barnett group and bring together people from across the UK who would not normally meet in their day-to-day business activities,” said David.
